Weekly Product Review-Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment

As is pretty apparent I am a huge believer in oil for all parts of the body. Oil nourishes every pore of our system and strengthens our inner and outer beauty. Different kinds of oils are better suited for different parts of the body and some are better ingested. Hair products like deodorants have been some of the products that took me a little longer to go all natural. This being it was harder to find ones that were both filled with natural ingredients but also got the job done. My hair is very thick, long and not the easiest to manage. I was usually using balms or gels that seemed to weigh my hair down and even damage it. I have learned when it comes to hair care less is definitely more. This is a product that I've been using for about a year and I can't say enough about it! It is a macadamia nut-based healing oil treatment used for all hair types. It is most beneficial for any kind of hair that has been damaged due to dying, blow drying, straightening or curling. The treatment drastically reduces frizz, smooths dry and broken ends, and most impressively actually cuts back on drying time by 40-50%. Because water and oil separate, when the treatment is applied to wet hair the water is pushed out of the cuticle allowing the hair to dry faster.
It also provides natural UV protection that increases the lasting of color treatments. The treatment is most importantly all natural and doesn't contain drying alcohols like so many hair products out there. This treatment can be used as an over night mask or can be applied to wet or dry hair to help with styling. The great thing about macadamia-nut oil is that unlike other hair oils such as morrocan or avocado, it is light and non greasy. It is easily absorbed into the hair shaft and doesn't weigh or flatten it down. The consistency of the oil is similar to that of sebum, the natural oil that all scalps produce on their own. This similarity to the already natural oil of our head allows the treatment to easily and quickly be absorbed.
The oil is a great source of calcium, B complex, Iron, Phosphorous, and Omega fatty acids. These work together to strengthen the hair as well as smooth it. This oil treatment also contains Argan oil, which is another great nourishing tool for the hair. This is a great product for both the dry days of winter as well as those humid and hot summer days. What I love about these kind of products is that the more it is used the healthier the hair gets. I saw an immediate deference in the shine, frizz control and overall manageability in the first day! It also smells incredible and is very affordable, this is the only hair product I use!

The Buzz Around Bee Pollen

I am always looking for new and innovative ways to get more energy and feel more alive. Life is full of stress and emotions that build up in our systems to create fatigue and disease. There are so many natural solutions that help in aiding this buildup however. Over the counter medicines treat the disease but there are fewer medicines for prevention in western medicine. There are tons of holistic vitamins that can be found straight from nature. Bee Pollen is one of my favorite ways to get vitamins and minerals through a pure nutritional supplement. Bee Pollen is made by honeybees and is a mass of pollen. The pollen is packed by the bees and made into granules by adding the honey and nectar in the hive. Bee Pollen is very nutritionally dense, containing all of the 8 essential amino acids needed for a healthy diet. Bee pollen is also a great complete protein and is amazing for athletes that need to stick to a high protein low carb diet. This magic pollen also contains dozens of other vitamins, 28 minerals, 11 enzymes, and over 15 fatty acids. All found in this simple creation of mother nature. In Roman and Greek times bee pollen was known as "the life-giving dust" as it was consumed to acquire eternal youth and perfect health. Bee pollen is said to aid beauty, increase energy, fight cancer, relieve digestive disorders and even boost the brain and nervous system function. One of the most amazing  benefits of bee pollen is the detoxing and rejuvenating powers it has on the digestive and intestinal functions.
Bee Pollen self digests and helps with the digesting of other foods. This wards off diarrhea and constipation, which are often unchanged by antibiotics. By regulating the digestive tract one's weight is naturally controlled and normalized through this protein. It can also be used as a way to detox the body. It enables the body to self regulate and correct its natural chemistry. Many tests have been done using bee pollen and individuals that are withdrawing from heavy drugs or alcohol. The pollen allows the body to release the heavy metals that have been built up as well as avoiding the negative withdrawal symptoms that are often experienced. Other ailments that have been treated with bee pollen are: asthma, anemia, fatigue, depression, skin conditions (especially acne), sexual problems, hemorrhoids, obesity, and arthritis. This natural superfood can even help in curing allergies in many people. In rare cases bee pollen can cause allergic reactions but this is usually in people that are allergic to bee stings. When first starting with bee pollen try one or two granules at first to see how the body responds to it.Then increase to a heaping tablespoon once or twice a day for the full benefits. I love the sweet  chalky taste of the plain granules but you can also add a spoon to a smoothie or even yogurt. My personal experience with bee pollen is feeling sated throughout the day as well as feeling more energized. Another beautiful, natural remedy from nature.

Weekly Product Review- Organic Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream

Every single product I write about I have had great success with and this one is at the top of the list. Eye cream is a necessity for most girls that are entering their mid to late twenties and so on. Unfortunately most good quality eye creams with organic ingredients are often very expensive and break the bank. The only organic eye care that I could afford over the years were gels not creams that didn't do much and stung my eyes. This product is one of my favorite of the 100 percent pure skin care line. This product along with every other in this great company is 100 percent organic, 100 percent vegan, as well as being gluten free. This companies goal is to use the plants and fruits from nature to help with our skin care as well as our bodies. The simplicity and purity from nature are all we need to enhance our already beautiful selves.  Creatively, this product uses the effects of caffeine from both green tea and coffee beans to wake up the skin around the eye.
The caffeine in these ingredients enliven the skin as well as adding circulation to the dark circles under the eye. Organic aloe, rosehip oil, and vitamin E work together to create a powerful anti aging and anti inflammatory eye cream. This cream should be applied both morning and evening to  nourish and soothe the delicate skin under the eye. It de-puffs tired eyes, and improves overall skin hydration. Lack of skin hydration is what causes the skin to wrinkle and look lack luster. The skin underneath the eyes is the most delicate of any area on the face and is most susceptible to wrinkles and fine lines. When I use this product I really feel like it acts like my morning coffee, it wakes me up and gives me that lift that I need to start the day. I use this before the gym, before sleep, during traveling, or anytime I need a pick me up. The other great thing about this eye cream is that it dissolves very quickly and sets very well under makeup. Unlike other eye creams that leak into mascara or eye liner, this one is fully dissolved 5 minutes after it's applied. I noticed a drastic improvement in my under eye skin almost immediately after using this product. Another great use for those coffee lovers out there!

Harmless Harvest-The Best and Healthiest Coconut Water

Dehydration occurs in the body when there is more electrolytes and water going out then coming in. This can result in sagging skin, wrinkled skin and many diseases especially of the liver. Coconut water keeps you hydrated because of its high levels of potassium and other electrolytes that keep a balance of proper fluid in the body.  Coconut water has been known for years as being ' nature's sports drink', in that it is more hydrating than any sports drink out there and is natural fuel for the body. Any athlete out there, male or female will benefit from adding this drink into their sports routine or gym routine. For women especially anything that hydrates our body will show up on our skin and complexion. There is nothing like dehydration to wreck havoc on our looks and our body. Coconut water is also an incredible hangover cure and a flu fighter. Over the years I have drank many different brands of coconut water but none of the them tasted like the fresh water I got from a fresh coconut. I always wondered why this was the case, but it made me realize that the other brands I was drinking were processed.
The water was mixed with other chemicals and was heated and moving farther away from the actual coconut nectar. The more that is done to the coconut water the farther away it moves away from all of the incredible health benefits. Harmless Harvest is the first coconut water I have stumbled upon that tastes just like fresh coconut juice and is truly incredible. unlike other coconut waters out there Harmless Harvest is a raw coconut water which is not heated but produced with cutting edge heatless equipment to maintain the purity of the product. It is of course a 100 percent organic and nothing is added in anytime of the bottling process. The coconuts come from small eco farms in Thailand and are considered a wild food. The integrity of the coconut is tasted in each bottle, as they are all different. This is hands down the best coconut water i have ever had and everyone out there needs to try it!

Rescue Remedy Relief

Rescue Remedy is a product of the Bach Flower Remedies discovered by Dr. Edward Bach. These all natural remedies and tinctures use both homeopathy, herbs, and flower essences and are safe and effective for everyone. This includes, young children, the elderly, pregnant women and even pets. These products promote a simple way of healing the stress of emotions and trauma that we as individuals experience in everyday life. Rescue remedy is their most popular product and combines five of the original Bach flower remedies. Rescue remedy comes in a small bottle with a dropper that is to be taken under the tongue whenever one is feeling anxious, nervous or stressed throughout the day. This all natural remedy is meant to create balance and calm when taken in those stressful moments. The five original remedies work together to create a tincture that does miracles and really calms nerves and anxiety.
The first flower essence is Impatiens, This helps the feelings of impatience and stress that is directed at others and the anxiety that it creates in the body. Star of Bethlehem, is used for trauma and shock and how to integrate these experiences into our daily life, this is effective for both present or past traumas. This specific essence assists in the overall recovery of what such traumas do to our life and our body. Cherry Plum, helps with the fear of loss of control in both actions and thoughts. This minimizes that fear and instead brings greater clarity and stability to one's self worth. Rock Rose, is used for experiences of panic or terror and soothes and comforts our mind and heart in midst of those awful feelings. Lastly Clematis, is a flower essence that helps support those that experience feelings of basic depression and listlessness in life. Feelings of being withdrawn from the world and not living in the present moment. All of these flower essences work together to create a natural product that calms emotions and supports our hearts and minds.
The drops contain 27% grape based brandy or sunflower based glycerin, which are both used as a preservatives. It tastes a bit like watered down brandy but it's a mild and sweet taste. This has been a saving grace in my life and is something that everyone should try if they experience any of these emotions in life. One area in my life where rescue remedy has helped me is in my extreme fear of flying. Like many others, flying and traveling is a constant state of anxiety for me. I however love to travel and it had become a bit of an issue in my life. Using this product on the plane when I start to feel anxious is a huge comfort and really does minimize the feelings of fear. It has also helped to slowly minimize a large traumatic situation in my life and continues to help. This product also comes in a convenient spray as well as gum, pastilles, and even a cream that helps with stress that manifests on the skin. There is also Rescue Sleep and Rescue energy, which are both great products as well. I never leave the house without this in my purse at all times. It is a great alternative to anti depressants and anti anxiety medications and has zero side effects!

Weekly Product Review- Dr. Hauschka Cleansing Cream

There are many products that I have tried in order to find the ones that work best for me. Once I find one that works I am completely loyal to the product and company. Dr. Hauschka is without a doubt my absolute favorite natural skin care line and is superior to any other. Not only have their products completely changed my skin in the past, but they continue to nourish and strengthen my skin today. Other than water and coconut oil this cleansing cream is something I could never live without. I have been using this product since I was about fifteen and it continues to amaze me. Dr. Hauschka is a holistic and natural, German-based  skin care line that prides itself on its natural and organic ingredients. Its belief is that the skin is the reflection of beauty and that its products allow the skin to naturally balance and rebuild itself. This product along with many others in the line work with the skin's own
abilities to renew itself and create harmony and balance.
This cleansing cream is probably their most sought after product, using sweet almond meal, anthyllis, calendula, chamomile, and St. John'swort to cleanse the skin. The almond meal that is used is a blend of both the almond meat as well as the shells when they are pressed to make sweet almond oil. This meal when combined with water becomes a soothing and gentle cream for even very sensitive skin. unlike so many facial cleansers out there Dr. Hauschka doesn't strip the skin of moisture but instead gently washes away dirt and impurities. Other cleansers I have used in the past made my sensitive skin feel raw and stingy after using them. This is the perfect solution to that and other skin problems. This product is definitely gentle enough for a baby, which is usually my test being that my skin is basically that sensitive. The sweet almond acts as a light exfoliator while absorbing excess oil on the skin's surface. Anthyllis and calendula work together to clarify, while St. John'swort and chamomile sooth redness and calm the skin. The way in which one should apply the cleansing cream is in a press and roll movement to stimulate the skin's already natural cleansing abilities. When I use this product I almost never break out and if I do, it is as rarely as every few months. It is great for teenage skin as well as mature skin, both dry and oily. If I had my way I would own every product that Dr. Haushcka makes, however they are not cheap products. I find that I use expensive products that I can't do without and save on toners by using rose water spray or coconut oil before bed. This is definitely worth every penny! I will be featuring many other Dr. Haushka products in the future but this is by far their best one and there is nothing else like it out there!

Raw Food for Beauty

There are so many products and pills out there that we look to to make us feel and look our best. But what about what we are putting into our bodies? I have found that both men and women pay less attention to the food we eat. I think one reason is that it is hard to fully see the connection between how we feel and what we are eating. Eating is often a thoughtless activity in America and therefore we are clueless to what and how much we are consuming each day. It is something that takes a switch in our awareness and lifestyle. Until you change these things it will remain a mystery as to why we are getting sick and feeling toxic. The world is so obsessed with medicine and healing, that we have forgotten to look to the source of these illnesses. The more connected we are to ourselves and bodies the more we will know what our bodies really need. About four years ago I was introduced to the raw food lifestyle through a couple of friends.
I have always grown up surrounded by health food as my mom raised my sister and I on a macrobiotic diet, which is vegetables, grains and no meat or poultry. Like every college student however, I ate all the shit that comes along with partying and studying all hours of the night. At about 20 years old I felt unhealthy and exhausted from life. Raw food was a complete awakening for me. The basic philosophy of raw food is that by not cooking the fruits and vegetables the nutrients in these foods remain nutritionally dense and unprocessed. The food cannot be cooked above 118 degrees but instead remains basically raw.  The reason consuming raw food is like a health bolt for the system is that it alkalizes the body. Most diseases such as cancers, high blood pressure, skin disorders, liver failure, obesity, etc are attributed to acidic conditions.
Most foods in the all american diet are acidic which is what creates disease in our bodies. The raw food diet is an alkaline diet, which creates harmony and balance inside our cells. It does this by allowing the nutrients we consume to be utilized through the body as well as facilitating oxygen from the blood. One main benefit of raw foods is that the diet is filled with antioxidants which can protect our cells from free radicals. When free radicals are created in the body they can often lead to mutated cells. These are created when toxins build up in the body causing disease, cancer is one disease that is created from cell mutation. By keeping food raw  alive we are also keeping the enzymes alive to be digested by the body. Enzymes are essential for processes in our body especially digestion. When we cook these foods we kill the enzymes, which also kills the level of nutrients that it started with. Raw foods boost so many aspects of our health as well as our beauty. The raw food diet is primarily made up of greens which contribute the most amount of minerals to our systems.
The greens deliver both the optimal amount of minerals and vitamins needed for our biochemistry. This is what give us the 'raw glow' that is so evident when eating raw food. There are endless benefits of eating this way but the main ones I experienced were, glowing skin, better digestion, weight loss, better sleep and more energy. This is not to say I eat this way a hundred percent of the time or that anyone needs to in order to experience these benefits. I like a good steak and ice cream as much as the next person. Just having the awareness of adding more raw fruits and vegetables into your diet is enough to drastically change your health and energy levels. Everyone's body is different and therefore different things work for each individual, I think however we can all agree that adding more unprocessed fruits and vegetables is good for anyone's health. Here is my favorite raw food book that is the best of the best for anyone that is interested.

A Sexy and Subtle Scent

There are many secrets that I have carried with me in terms of beauty and health products, this is one of my favorites. I am a girly girl and love all things that smell delicious and uplift my mood. I try to use 90 percent organic and natural products but I do have a couple alcohol based perfumes. This however is one of my great perfume finds that is all natural and gentle on the skin. Anytime I wear this Kai perfume oil, men and women both ask me what smells so good?! The great thing about this product is only a small drop or two is needed to smell for the entire day and even the next morning. This is a great product for women that feel they are minimalists when it comes to perfume and want something understated. This pure perfume oil is made with the intoxicating scents of tropical gardenia and white exotic flowers. This oil along with all the other Kai products are paraben and sulfate free and not tested
on animals, which is always a selling point for me. The packaging that Kai uses is also recyclable as the entire company is targeted towards sustainability.
This specific product comes in an easy roll on bottle and lasts for quite a while because of how condensed and strong the scent is. There are two perfumes but the oil perfume is the one to get because it is more true to the tropical scent of gardenias. For me the point of a perfume is to feel transported somewhere else as well as to feel beautiful and feminine. This definitely brings me to the paradise that is Hawaii, it is provocative and subtle at the same time. Although it is a great summer scent I also love wearing it in the depths of winter to feel like I am in a tropical and warm place. It is a small bottle for the price, only an 1/8th of an ounce but remember it is pure gardenia oil and a little goes a long way. It is on the list of Oprah's favorite things and is definitely a sought after product. Here the beauty lies in the simplicity of this scent.

Makeup for the Organic Girl

Skincare is one of the biggest parts of any woman's beauty routine. As our biggest organ we need to make sure our skin is healthy and looking alive. For me personally my skin is where all of the toxins and stress in my body show up. I cannot hide a day of drinking or lack of sleep because it is all over my complexion the next day. Makeup has been one of those things that is a make or break for a woman. There are so many brands out there that are targeted to the younger and older generation in skin care. If we aren't educated about the ingredients in these products, we end up slathering our skin with chemicals that aggressively dry out the skin. The main thing that ages skin is lack of moisture therefore drying out the layers of skin on our face leading to wrinkles. My problem with organic skin care over the years is that they didn't work in terms of appearance and effectiveness as the other  chemically rich brands. These however dried my skin out and gave me breakouts and redness. Although I try to use all organic products I also love nice good quality makeup and I couldn't find a good in-between. Until, two years ago when my sister worked as an intern for the company a 100 percent pure. This was my saving grace in terms of makeup.
This makeup is pigmented with fruits and vegetables along with the rest of their products. All of the ingredients are natural and organic and work in alignment with the skin. The makeup is filled with nourishing vitamins that increase the skins elasticity and moisture level the more you use it. When I started using these products my skin changed instantaneously. I was shocked and overjoyed! The makeup is light but has full coverage making the skin look healthier and more supple. The more I used these products the less I needed. Truly a life changer for the complexion. I have seen many of my friends switch to this makeup line and their skin has also dramatically changed and cleared up. Along with the creme foundation I also use their tinted moisturizer to add even more moisture and in the summer I just use that. I avoid all powders in general because powders dry out the skin even if they are organic. This is truly food for the skin and if nothing else try these products!

The Pull of Oil Pulling

I have been very excited to write this specific blog entry because it is one of my newest and most effective health finds. Oil pulling is something I have just started doing in the last few months or so. Oil pulling is a traditional Ayurvedic method of swishing a tablespoon of unrefined oil in the mouth in the same way you would a mouthwash. It is to be done on an empty stomach, usually suggested in the morning for about 10-20 minutes. This simple technique is said to remove bacteria and toxins from not just the mouth but from the entire nervous system. When the saliva mixes with the oil it 'pulls' these toxic substances from the body and purifies the system. The main benefit of oil pulling is the strengthening of the teeth and gums as well as whitening and overall oral health. Another main benefit is clearing of the sinuses and throat providing instant relief if you are congested. Oil pulling is also known to cure headaches, colds, back and neck pains, asthma, digestive problems, constipation, heart disease, blood pressure, and reproductive issues. It seems unfathomable that such a simple technique could help cure these aggressive diseases but basically oil pulling helps the body self regulate and balance. It helps detoxify and remove even parasites and heavy metals from the system.
Oil pulling is one of the most successful forms of natural detoxification out there. when the oil is pulled through the teeth and mouth it picks up excess bacterias that build up and cause infections, this is then drained from the body once it is released. For me personally the thought of gargling with oil made me gag, but I tried it and it wasn't bad at all and was actually very mild. It is suggested to use either sesame or sunflower oil both unrefined, which can be bought at almost any super market or health food store. I use sunflower because I feel like it is lighter and more mild tasting. The benefits I experienced were immediate however and I became an oil pulling devotee. The first thing I saw was an immediate surge of energy in the morning when I usually feel groggy and tired as well as a brightening of my complexion. I also noticed a cleanliness in my mouth that I have never really had, even after using mouth wash. It is a sweet and clean feeling and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone as part of your daily routine.

Weekly Product Review- Coconut Rose Oil

This last week I visited boulder Colorado where I used to live a couple years ago. I made it a point to stop into one of my favorite places, Rebecca's Apothecary. Other than the great name this is pretty much my version of a kid in a candy store. Stocked with homemade oil blends, beeswax, flower essences, homeopathy, and every tea blend imaginable it is basically my heaven. Almost every product in the store is homemade by the herbalists that work there. The staff is friendly and incredibly knowledgable about any dietary or health problem one might have. Although I have been a fan of many of their products, my favorite and most trusted is their rose coconut oil. This has been one of my secrets for years and since moving I am excited to announce that they now sell thier incredible products online! There are many great benefits to incorporating oils into ones beauty routine and lifestyle. One that is Fairly less known is that applying and ingesting oils is a great natural anti anxiety. Coconut oil especially as I have previously mentioned contains medium-chain fatty acids. These fatty acids get absorbed very quickly by skin tissue and then converts to energy, this is what gives us a lift and minimizes both depression and anxiety.  It soothes both the skin and the brain.
I apply a thick layer of oil to my face before I go to sleep as a way to calm and unwind from the day. It is incredibly relaxing and you're skin will thank you in the morning. This specific oil blend is made up of organic unrefined coconut oil and mixed with organic dried, red rose petals. This can be used as an all over moisturizer or just for the face. The coconut oil moisturizes while the rose calms redness and inflammation. Working together these two natural ingredients create balance in the skin. As some people may be allergic to roses, they also offer a lavender blend as well. This is especially great for before sleep as lavender is another natural de-stresser. Because the oil is so gentle it is a great option to use for babies or for  very sensitive skin. Another great product that is affordable and good for the body and soul. http://shop.rebeccasherbs.com/browse.cfm/coconut-rose-oil-4-fl.-oz/4,139.html

The Only Pill Worth Popping-Beauty Enzymes

Over the years I have gone through a lot of trial and error with vitamins. I used vitamins as a means for getting nutrients and getting energy that I didn't have. My experience was consuming about 5 to ten pills a day with almost zero benefits. Instead I spent a ton of money on vitamins and feeling really discouraged and frustrated. They even went as far as to make me sick at times.  I am not saying this is the case for everyone but for me this was my experience. I think the problem lies in most of the store bought vitamins are basically made up of so many fillers that the body just cannot properly absorb them. The nutrients we are looking for can be much more easily gotten from fruits, vegetables and real food. Almost every vitamin I was taking I could get from some healthy food and I ended up feeling better as soon as I cut them out. This enzyme however is my one exception. Made by one of my favorite companies, Sunfood Super Foods, this is one of the strongest and most successful enzyme formulas out there. They are both a 100% natural and plant based as well as gluten free. The enzyme itself helps to digest and absorb nutrients in foods, rejuvenates aged skin, and are acid resistant. They help the body naturally detoxify itself, leading to optimal health. For me I noticed shinier hair, easier digestion, stronger nails and clearer skin. Like many vitamins it is not cheap, but as basically my only vitamin I ended up saving a lot of moneyhttp://www.sunfood.com/beauty-enzymes-90-veg-caps-200cc-700mg.html?gclid=CPGgy_DesbYCFZE-Mgod0mkATA

The Magic Apple Cider Vinegar

I am always searching for natural alternatives to anything that comes up in my life weather it be physical or emotional. I absolutely hate taking over the counter pills or putting chemicals in my body. I have many reasons for this belief but mainly they don't work in the long run and as a sensitive person I experience all the negative side effects. Apple cider Vinegar is one of the star finds in terms of beauty secrets and natural options. Apple cider vinegar is something that is carried at almost all grocery stores. But  I'm guessing like me a couple years ago most people aren't sure what it really is. Basically it is a vinegar made out of pulverized apples. It is a product of fermentation like other vinegars where sugars in a certain food are broken down through yeast and bacterias. This can be used in the kitchen but more importantly it can be used in beauty and health maintenance. Apple cider vinegar can act as Ph regulator for the skin when combined with cold water. It can also be applied directly as a toner or astringent, the most inexpensive option out there. It can also be used as a means to reduce swelling in the feet or hands or anywhere on the body. A great option for pregnant woman that have sore feet or legs, it is a great foot soak after a long day.

Apple cider vinegar can also be used as a substitute for shampoo and conditioner as it cleans the hair and creates shine and luster. Another great use for this vinegar is its ideal for weight loss in that it cuts cravings, detoxes the kidneys and kills infection. For me, my personal miracle with apple cider vinegar was the complete curing of a terrible bladder infection or otherwise known as the honeymooners disease. If any woman has had one of these they know it is one of the most uncomfortable and terrible things out there. I have in the past just taken the over the counter anti biopics and called it a day. But I wanted to see if I could cure it naturally. My doctor was shocked when I had come in and I had completely cured myself. I diligently mixed two shots of apple cider vinegar with a fourth a cup of water and half a lemon three times a day. Within three days I was free and cured! I also use this when I am sick with the flu or have had a late night and have a hangover. It is a strong taste so I would suggest mixing it with water. I always have this on hand and so should you!

The Sweet Spot

This is  a find that was recommended to me by my sister, which she came upon in a wax studio in San Francisco. The sweet spot is a brand of products designed to enhance a woman's 'sweet spot' through its delicately chosen natural ingredients. These products refresh a woman while staying within the ph levels for her body. Unlike other products in this area the sweet spot does not use harsh chemicals or alcohols that irritate or cause other infections. Instead the sweet spot products come in an array of washes, balancing sprays and on the go wipes that only use the best of ingredients from both plant and mineral sources as well as purified water. The products also contain essential oils  rather than abrasive perfumes to make a woman feel clean and fresh. Pink grapefruit, tangerine, geranium, lavender and aloe vera are used for their anti bacterial and calming effects. These are great for any woman looking to feel refreshed and clean on the go or as part of a daily routine. http://www.sweetspotlabs.com/products

The Power of Lemons

There are so many fruits and vegetables that contribute to our overall health and well being. The lemon is at the top of the list, for its array of uses both in the kitchen and in our beauty routine. It is truly a miracle worker of a fruit. The juice of a lemon as well as the lemon rind contains enzymes which can naturally cleanse the skin of dead cells as well as age spots. The juice can refresh and tone the skin when applied directly or in a mixture of water or other essential oils. Lemons can be rubbed on dark spots like elbows, or underarms to lighten the skin. Lemons are a natural bleaching agent as well as exfoliator for the skin. The citric acid in lemons will also kill bacteria that is on the surface. Lemons when mixed with baking soda can also act as a natural teeth whitener. This is a great option if you are apposed to the harsh chemicals used in most whitening strips out there. This will also get rid of bacteria in the mouth that causes bad breath.

Lemons are also known to help with acne, blackheads and overall dullness of the skin. Lemons help both oily skin as well as mature wrinkled skin, they are an all purpose face product. Lemons are also used for many health benefits in the kitchen. Lemons have natural antiviral and antibacterial properties that boost the immune system.  One of the things lemons are most well known for are their weight loss benefits. Lemons act as a natural digestive aid and liver cleanser. The citric acid, magnesium, calcium, vitamin c, bioflavonoids, and pectin fight infection and promote overall immunity as well as curbing cravings. The easiest way for me to incorporate lemons into my diet is to drink a cup of warm water with half a lemon each morning on an empty stomach. Finally a Natural Deodorant that Works!

This is one of my most exciting finds! I have turned almost completely to all organic and natural products including toothpaste, soap, makeup, and oils. However, natural, effective deodorant has been one of those things that I just couldn't seem to find. All of them just basically didn't work at all. I was left using the aluminum heavy brands such as degree and secret. I actually found that in time they made me sweat even more and felt toxic on my skin. The problem lies in parabens, which are found in most deodorants and antiperspirants. These chemicals can act like estrogen in the body which is proven to contribute to many cases of breast cancer. Many breast cancers can develop in the area close to the armpit where deodorants are used. It is a scary thought and was definitely worth searching for another option. Lavanila, is marketed as the healthy deodorant and is the first one that has ever worked for me. It has a mild scent of either vanilla lavender, pure vanilla, vanilla blackberry, vanilla coconut, vanilla grapefruit, or vanilla passionate fruit. These are free of parabens, sulfates, synthetic dyes, petro-chemicals, and phthalates all found in most deodorants. It is also dermatologist tested and and allergen tested and non irritating. I either order mine online or buy them at any Sephora.

Natural birth control

I had to share this find because it has been a true gem in my life. After years of searching for a natural birth control, I finally came upon the lady comp! Unlike IUDs or birth control pills there are no awful side effects,  and no hormones, yet this is 99.3 percent effective. In short it is a fertility and ovulation computer that tracks a woman's cycle to determine when she is ovulating. It is easy to use, by taking your temperature each morning and tracking weather or not your rate of fertility is high. A green light means infertile a red light means fertile, and a yellow light means the machine is still getting to know your body. It can also be used as a means for getting pregnant  It is truly amazing. It is however on the pricey side but it's an investment and has a life long warranty. I saw it as a small price to pay to for the health and safety of my body.

Weekly Product Review: Weleda Calendula Diaper Care

Each Week I will review one of my favorite products as well as my new product discoveries. This week its all about another staple in my medicine cabinet, Weleda Diaper Cream. I have always been a huge fan of Weleda products because of their use of natural and organic ingredients. It is also one of the few brands that is great for sensitive skin like mine but is affordable. I have found over the years that an untapped area is often baby products. The ingredients used in baby products are much more carefully chosen because of how sensitive the skin is at that young of age. This product specifically is a complete miracle worker and is also a multi purpose product. It uses soothing calendula extract, beeswax and zinc oxide to tame redness and any skin sensitivity known to man. It is one of the only things I have found that completely gets rid of razor burn for men or women. The zinc oxide soothes redness like nothing I'ver ever used. It can also be applied to blemishes, hives, poison ivy, heat rashes and bug bites.  It's awesome!

My Five Beauty and Health Essentials

1. Transcendental meditation

Meditation is one of the best kept beauty secrets out there. No matter how much makeup or extras we use to cover ourselves up whats inside will shine through. If our insides aren't in harmony the way we look and feel will be toxic. Transcendental meditation is a natural and effortless way for the mind and body to settle down and release the stresses of everyday life. This creates natural balance and most importantly deep rest in the body. When I meditate regularly I notice my skin shines, my energy levels are higher and my overall health is better.

2. Rose Water Spray

Rose water spray is one of those beauty secrets I will pass down to my daughters eventually. I have been using this for as long as I can remember every day. I use it in place as a toner because it is lighter as well as a lot more inexpensive. It refreshes the skin first thing in the morning but can also be used throughout the day as a little pick me up when your skin is feeling dull and lifeless. It is extremely effective for sensitive skin because roses are a natural cooling agent and ease redness. In the summer i put mine in the refrigerator for an even colder spray. This is also not just for women, my boyfriends have been known to sneak a spray or two! this one is my particular favorite because it uses organic roses.

3. Coconut oil

In my life coconut oil is an all  purpose product that I definitely could not live without. Each month I find something new that it can be used for. The main thing I have always used coconut oil for is a natural makeup remover however. It doesn't sting the eyes like so many alcohol based makeup removers out there. It instantly removes and cuts through any and all eye and skin products. I also use it as a skin moisturizer to stimulate the skin before I take a shower. this is also known as the ayurvedic  practice of abyhanga.  http://mapi.com/ayurveda_health_care/newsletters/ayurvedic_abyanga.html. Coconut oil can also be used as an over night hair mask to help split ends as well as topical use for cuts and bruises. I use it to heal my tattoos and it works great. Mae West claimed that coconut oil was her secret to youthful skin applying it to her face every night before she went to sleep.  It is also one of the top super foods and has overwhelming health benefits because of its natural fatty acids. These fatty acids help support brain function as well as an increase in metabolism. It can be used in cooking or any kind of food preparation in substitution of butter, oils or other dairy products. To make sure I get at least some coconut oil each day, I have started putting a tbsp in my tea. Whatever it is used for, coconut oil is a must have staple in everyone woman's beauty routine.

4. Reviva Vitamin E stick

This is a product that was introduced to me by my best friend years ago. It is an award wining product and one that I couldn't do without. Made with beeswax and soy, and vitamin E, this stick is used as an under eye and lip moisturizer. It is also SPF 15 and is great to use in the summer and winter. It works to naturally de puff the eyes and is great to use first thing in the morning. I also use this on the airplane to keep my skin fresh and my eyes alert. Another inexpensive product with amazing results.  This is always in my purse at all times!

5. Water

Water is probably the single beauty secret that I live by. When I was about 14 years old (I am 26 now) I had very red and sensitive skin on my face. My mom had brought me to a skin consultation with a natural and organic skin care expert visiting Iowa. On first seeing me she told me I looked like her italian niece and then went on to say that the simplest solution for my skin was water, water, water! She said I had a lot of heat trapped in my body and that water would allow it to naturally purify and clean. This was the best beauty advice I have had to date. The simplest act of drinking a couple of fresh filtered liters of water a day made my face look like i had an instant face lift. The redness went down almost immediately along with many other health benefits. Almost any sickness I have i can cure with drinking more water.
